Pluto LNG forms part of our outstanding base business

Pluto LNG processes gas from the offshore Pluto and Xena gas fields in Western Australia. Gas is piped through a 180 km trunkline to a single onshore LNG-processing train. Pluto LNG is underpinned by 15-year sales agreements with Kansai Electric and Tokyo Gas, which each hold a 5% interest in the project.

Planning continues for the expansion of Pluto LNG based on the acceleration of Pluto gas and the potential development of the Scarborough gas field via the Pluto LNG facility. Studies have commenced on a potential Pluto–North West Shelf (NWS) Interconnector, intended to unlock incremental value for both Pluto LNG and the NWS Project.

Subject to joint venture, regulatory and other approvals, developing a pipeline connection between the two plants could accelerate Pluto area gas reserves, and leverage existing Pluto offshore capacity and emerging NWS LNG ullage. Additional synergies between the two plants are also being considered.

Woodside’s long-standing LNG development and operating experience is backed by growing capability in LNG shipping, with Pluto LNG managing an integrated shipping fleet of four LNG vessels.

One of Australia's pioneering, large-scale carbon offset projects

Pluto LNG has offset more than 600,000 tonnes of CO₂ since 2008. Through an innovative collaboration with CO2 Australia, over 40 million drought-resistant, native Australian Blue Mallee trees have been planted across more than 17,000 hectares.

Pluto LNG Expansion
The safe start-up of Pluto LNG in 2012 cemented our status as a major supplier of energy to the Asia-Pacific region. Now, we're proposing to add a second train to process gas from the offshore Scarborough field - part of our Burrup Hub vision.
