Burrup Hub Environmental Approvals

We are committed to understanding and managing the environmental, cultural and social impacts and opportunities of our proposed Burrup Hub growth projects. In April 2020, the National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority (NOPSEMA) accepted the Offshore Project Proposal (OPP) for Woodside’s Scarborough gas development.

Pluto Train 2

The brownfield expansion of Pluto LNG to include a second LNG Train (Pluto Train 2) would provide a clear pathway to the low-cost development of the Scarborough resources. Pluto LNG was originally designed to allow efficient brownfield development and third-party gas processing. An area for a second train was pre-prepared in 2007/2008.

targeting FID

SCARBOROUGH IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE BURRUP HUB, CONTRIBUTING TO LONG-TERM ECONOMIC GROWTH AND LOCAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR WESTERN AUSTRALIA.

The Scarborough gas resource is located approximately 375 km west-northwest of the Burrup Peninsula and is part of the Greater Scarborough gas fields which are estimated to hold 13.0 Tcf (2C, 100%) of dry gas. The greater Scarborough gas fields include Thebe (1.4 Tcf, 2C, 100%), Jupiter (0.5 Tcf, 2C, 100%) and Scarborough (11.1 Tcf, 2C, 100%). Woodside is proposing to develop the Scarborough gas resource through new offshore facilities connected by an approximately 430 km pipeline to a proposed expansion of the existing Pluto LNG onshore facility (Pluto Train 2).
