Our Communities
Woodside believes long-term relationships with local communities are essential to business success. We are committed to understanding our social impacts and helping to build strong and thriving communities in the regions where we operate.
By way of example, Woodside is committed to the ongoing development of the north-west Australian town of Karratha as the regional centre of the Western Pilbara, which is home to many of our staff, contractors and their families.
We have identified four priority areas to help build and maintain the level of services and infrastructure in Karratha that our employees and the community expect. These priorities are child care, health, education and recreation. We are working closely with governments at all levels for the delivery of these important services and we are an active sponsor of the Karratha K2020 Vision and Community Plan.
At a broader level, we focus on the following activities to achieve our community aspirations:
- Stakeholder engagement – formal processes to allow stakeholders to learn current operations and proposed projects, as well as opportunities to provide input to planned business activities.
- Community investment – supporting community programs and sponsorships that bring positive, sustainable benefits to communities near to our operations. Click here to learn more about our community investment program.
- Indigenous well-being and cultural heritage – establishing and maintaining relationships with Indigenous communities; providing opportunities in education and training; supporting Aboriginal arts and culture; and minimising our impact on Indigenous cultural heritage.
