Development options under consideration for Grassy Point LNG include an onshore LNG facility and a Near Shore LNG facility. The proposed facility would convert processed natural gas, delivered by a pipeline, into LNG for export to global markets.
In 2014, we initiated an assessment of the economic and technical feasibility of the Grassy Point opportunity, including geotechnical surveys on the site. In parallel, we initiated consultation activities with First Nations, government and community stakeholders.
In early 2015, Woodside was granted a licence from the National Energy Board to export up to 20 Mtpa of natural gas from the Grassy Point site for a period of up to 25 years. The licence is a key obligation under our Sole Proponent Agreement (SPA).
We continue to work to meet our obligations under the SPA. This includes progressing the pre-application Environmental Assessment process for the proposed LNG facility and developing relationships with First Nations. Any decision to proceed with an LNG development at Grassy Point remains subject to a variety of approvals.
Woodside must obtain an Environmental Assessment Certificate before any work can be undertaken on the proposed Project.
Prior to submission of an application for a certificate by Woodside, the Environmental Assessment Office of British Columbia (EAO) must first approve Application Information Requirements (AIR).
As part of developing the AIR, Woodside and EAO co-hosted a Grassy Point LNG Project Open House in March 2016.
The Open House facilitated public participation, which ensures community values and public goals for community development are considered in project planning and decision making. If you were unable to attend the Open House and would like further information, please view our Open House Booklet.
