Development Concept

In February 2010 Woodside and its joint venture participants selected a development concept that included an onshore processing plant at the Western Australian Government’s Browse LNG Precinct near James Price Point, 60 km north of Broome.

Development concept

The development concept selected by the Browse LNG Development includes three tension-leg floating gas and liquids platforms (1 per field), a central processing facility in shallower water, and onshore LNG and condensate production and export facilities capable of processing 12 million tonnes of LNG per annum.

The scope of the development includes:

  • An initial development based on Brecknock and Calliance fields, followed by the phased development of Torosa
  • Three deepwater tension leg platforms with liquids separation, connected to subsea manifolds
  • Twelve wells at start up (Calliance - 8, Brecknock - 4), with full field development of approximately 50 wells
  • Separate liquids and gas lines from deepwater facilities to the central processing facility
  • A central gas processing and compression facility (CPF) in shallower water (100m). This would be a bridge-linked, two-platform  design, with one for accommodation and utilities, the other for processing
  • 900km of inter-field & infield pipelines
  • ~315 km 42” export pipeline from the CPF  to shore
  • Three onshore processing trains with capacity of 12 million tonnes LNG production capacity per annum
  • 280,000 cu.m LNG storage, 300,000 cu.m condensate storage
  • Integrated marine facility for module offloading, base for supply vessels and LNG and condensate loading
  • Potential to expand to up to 25 million tonnes of LNG production capacity per annum

The Browse LNG Development is expected to have a peak construction workforce of about 6000 (onshore) and 1500-2000 (offshore). Woodside has plans to build an accommodation facility adjacent to the Browse LNG Precinct to house the construction workforce.
