2012 marks the inaugural year of Woodside’s partnership with the quirky Fringe World Festival. The festival brings vibrancy to the Perth’s CBD for over three and a half weeks throughout February. It is an ideal complementary program to Woodside’s partnership with the Perth International Arts festival that starts on Friday.
On track to generate more than $1 million in ticket sales, Fringe World organisers have captured the public's imagination with more than 150 shows featuring almost 900 performers across dozens of unique venues. The festival has a smorgasbord of entertainment on offer to tickle everyone’s taste buds.
Alongside all the traditional and non-traditional venues that are part of the Fringe, Woodside’s hosting four Fringe performances at Woodside Plaza. The lunchtime performances in the courtyard are held every Friday for three weeks. These performances will bring the world of Fringe to CBD workers in their lunch break.
30,000 tickets have already been sold and more than 50,000 people have attended free Fringe events. Fringe World director Marcus Canning said Fringe had been three years in the making and was a great result for the artists. ”It puts Perth up there with sizeable Fringes elsewhere across the world", he said.
Woodside social investment program contributes to health and well-being with a key focus on regional communities. As part of our support of the Fringe World Festival 2012, the famous Spiegeltent tent will tour the North West of Western Australia.
The Fringe World Partnership joins community partners like West Australian Ballet, West Australian Youth Orchestra, Perth International Arts Festival and Australian Business Arts Foundation in the creative energy space. In 2011 Woodside Social Investment Program invested A$1.9 million in the arts sector.
