Waste Management

A variety of wastes result from our activities including chemicals and oily wastes from our operating facilities and paper and general waste from our office facilities. Woodside encourages reduction of waste and promotes reuse and recycling where possible.

Waste produced by Woodside’s offshore facilities is managed according to a Waste Management Plan (WMP). The purpose of the WMP is to ensure waste is managed in accordance with Woodside’s Environment Policy, complies with statutory and contractual requirements and is appropriately handled, stored, transported and disposed.

A change of waste management practices in 2009 led to immediate results, with significant improvement in the proportion of waste recycled instead of being sent to landfill. This positive trend has been maintained.

This approach will be extended to the Pluto LNG Plant when it commences production in 2012.

The table below which also appeared in Woodside’s 2010 Sustainable Development Report compares wastes and residuals materials management for the previous five years.
