Phase V LNG Expansion
The Woodside-operated North West Shelf Venture decided in June 2005 to build a fifth LNG processing train on the Burrup Peninsula near Karratha in Western Australia. The fifth train is the major component of the proposed LNG Phase V expansion project, which also includes a second LNG berth and related infrastructure.
First cargoes of LNG from Train 5 are anticipated by the fourth quarter of 2008.
The fifth train will be similar in size and production capacity to the fourth train which can produce 4.4 million tonnes of LNG a year.
The plant has current yearly capacity of 11.9 million tonnes of LNG. The fifth train will boost total production capacity to 16.3 million tonnes a year.
The fifth train will be built near existing plant and take investment in North West Shelf Venture facilities to more than A$19 billion.
