In 2008, Woodside expects to spend almost $300 million on its global exploration activities, including the drilling of about six wells outside of Australia.
The company will drill between 3-5 wells in its onshore Libyan acreage over the next 12 months, as well as its first well in the Santos basin, offshore Brazil. Up to 2 wells may also be drilled in the Gulf of Mexico.
Woodside has large exploration acreage outside of Australia including the Gulf of Mexico, South Korea, Kenya, Libya, Algeria, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
The main focus for Woodside outside of Australia is in the Gulf of Mexico and in 2007, Woodside won 14 new deepwater leases in the Gulf, against strong competition at a net cost of US$26 million.
Woodside has fully staffed technical offices in its head office in Perth and in the United States and Libya.
