Australia

In 2008, Woodside expects to spend almost $300 million on its international exploration activities, including the drilling of about nine wells in Australia.

Most of the proposed wells are located in the Carnarvon Basin off the North West Shelf in Western Australia. Additional wells are planned for the Browse Basin (off the Kimberley coast in Western Australia) and the Otway Basin, offshore Victoria.

Over the past 10 years, Woodside has drilled 105 wells in Australia, with a commercial success rate of 23%, resulting in the discovery of about 2800 million barrels of oil equivalent (ie. including gas and oil).

In 2007, Woodside conducted the first ever series of Controlled Source Electromagnetic surveys (CSEM) in offshore Australia during exploration activities in the Carnarvon Basin.

The company also achieved another Australian first in 2007 when it completed a multi-azimuth 3D seismic survey of 109 sqkm over the Tidepole gas field, North West Shelf.

Woodside has interests in 21 Australian offshore exploration permits (Operator for 19 permits) covering an area of more than 71,000 sqkm of acreage.
