Browse Upstream Development

Woodside Energy Ltd, as operator of the Browse LNG Development, is proposing to develop the Torosa, Brecknock and Calliance gas fields located in the Browse Basin approximately 425km north of Broome, Western Australia.

The Browse Upstream Development includes a gas collection system and necessary infrastructure to enable the production and transportation of natural gas and associated products from the three gas fields mentioned above.

Under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act), Woodside submitted a referral for the Browse Upstream Development to the Commonwealth Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts (DEWHA) and it can be viewed here.

Following the submission of the referral and a public comment period, the Commonwealth Minister for the Environment and Heritage set an environmental impact statement (EIS) level of assessment on the project. Guidelines for the EIS have now been issued and are available for download below or from the Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts' website.

The downstream facilities, incorporating the LNG plant and associated infrastructure, are not included in this referral. They will be referred separately and assessed under relevant environmental legislation.
