Woodside Supports New Youth and Family Facility in Karratha

As the January 2012 opening of The Youth Shed approaches, Woodside has signed an agreement with the Shire of Roebourne to contribute towards the final stages of the $4.7 million facility.

The Youth Shed will boast a children’s marine-themed indoor playground, café, dedicated youth space, performing arts area, outdoor skate park and a 38-bay car park.

Woodside’s contribution will enable the complete and timely fit-out of the facility, delivering items such as the indoor playcentre structure, audio-visual and recreational equipment, and outdoor lighting and security measures.

In addition, Woodside is funding a pioneering solar energy trial to help the Shire minimise ongoing running costs of the air-conditioning system.
Shire of Roebourne President Fiona White-Hartig said The Youth Shed was a great example of industry and local government working together.

“It is projects such as this that are creating excitement within our community, as we create a town that people are proud to call home”, Ms White-Hartig said.

After a recent visit to the construction site, Woodside’s Pilbara Community Relations Manager Matt Keogh said the Youth Shed would help meet an important need in the Karratha community.

“I am especially pleased that Woodside’s support will enable The Youth Shed to have an independent income source and lower running costs, so that it can remain open for years to come”, Mr Keogh said.  “Furthermore, Woodside is building on a strong record of support for youth programs by investing in the places and people that keep these initiatives going”.

Woodside proudly joins other funding providers, including the WA State Government and LandCorp, to help deliver one of the Shire’s six key Karratha community well-being projects.

Woodside is committed to working with government, not-for-profit and private sector partners on community infrastructure projects that help make Karratha an even better place to live and work.
